Meet Sophie
Sophie Gurizzian
*Currently accepting new clients in person in Plymouth and virtually throughout Michigan.
At the center of my work is the belief that healing happens in relationships: with yourself, with others, and with the world around you. I work primarily with older teens and adults, and as a queer person myself, I have a particular passion for working with members of the LGBTQ+ community.
As a student therapist, I am always learning and seeking out new ways to best serve my clients. The therapeutic relationship lies at the foundation of my work, and from that foundation I draw heavily from somatic interventions, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Internal Family Systems, person-centered approaches, and psychodynamic work. That said, I am committed to working together to find whatever approach feels most meaningful for you.
Life is hard! Whether you're exploring identity, working through relationship difficulties, experiencing major life transitions, or just generally feeling disconnected from who you truly are, know that you don't have to walk alone. My hope is that through our work together, we can explore what's brought you to therapy—not just what's most obvious on the surface, but also what runs deeper—and create space for you to move toward a life that feels more authentic and aligned with who you truly are. It is my greatest privilege to be able to walk alongside someone on their healing journey.
Outside of the therapy room, I am an avid birdwatcher, reader, writer, and lover of all things outdoors. You'll often find me wandering through a forest with a camera in hand, or reading and writing under a wise old oak tree. If any of this resonates, I'd be happy to talk and see if we're a good fit.
Education and Additional Training
I am in my final year of the Master of Social Work program at Eastern Michigan University. I am trained in Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP). I also have completed additonal trainings from Eastern Michigan University Narcissism: Exploring Power, Control, and the Abuse Cycle and Approaches to Effective Pain Management.
